The heartbeat

We got to hear the heartbeat on Wednesday! It almost didn't happen...my doctor's office called to cancel because my doctor got paged to deliver a baby. Wendel and I had both left work early for this appointment and we were almost there when I got the call so I asked the receptionist if there was any way the assistant or a nurse or someone else could let us hear the heartbeat. She said she would check and call me back. She finally did and said we could come and the doctor would even still be there if we hurried. What annoyed me (and maybe this is just because many things annoy me these days) was that they again didn't know why I was there, they had lost my paperwork or shredded it (so we had to start all over and they still only got half way through) and when I called a few days before the appointment to make sure it was okay that Wendel come to hear the heartbeat, the receptionist told me she didn't know if it was possible to hear the heartbeat at 12 weeks. "I don't know how far along you have to be...but if the doctor told you that you could hear it, I guess you can." Is this an OBGYN office or not? What?!? But it's okay, we finally got in there and my doctor came in and let us hear the heartbeat. It took a while for her to find it, which scared me a little, but she finally did and it was amazing. It's just nice to have that confirmation that there really is a little life forming inside of me.

Wendel recorded the heartbeat on his phone. The two loud noises in the beginning are me laughing (I don't remember why). We are talking a bit, which is kind of distracting but you get the idea.

And here is a picture of me at the end of my first trimester. Yay, I made it the first 12 weeks!

Almost through the first tirmester!

I haven't checked in much here lately. I work all day and then I'm so tired by the time I get home. So far, my summary of pregnancy is tiredness. But I'll take it. I'm really happy and excited to be pregnant.

We get to hear the baby's heartbeat tomorrow. I am so excited about that. I am 11 1/2 weeks and feel that we can finally share the news publicly after we hear the heartbeat and know that our little sprout is healthy.

Apparently, the baby is the size of a fig now.

"Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.

She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming." - babycenter.com

I will check in again soon to write about the heartbeat.

9 1/2 weeks

My belly is growing. These shots were also taken right after eating, which tends to make it look a bit bigger. I can still hide it pretty well so that it's not as obvious as it is in these pictures but it's very uncomfortable to try to suck it in.

At nine weeks "Your baby, now the size of a green olive, has grown about an inch since last week. Tiny muscles are beginning to form." - whattoexpect.com

I am now working full time, which is crazy. I am tired all the time. Last night I went to bed at 9:30! (So unlike me!) I am hoping the tiredness will lessen once I get into my second trimester in a couple of weeks. Until then, wish me luck.

The Food Cycle

Here's how it goes:

1. Nothing looks good to me. I hardly have an appetite and have to remind myself to eat because I just can't think of anything that sounds good.

2. I finally eat something because my stomach is growling and I know I need to. I am surprised at how amazing it tastes. I am in heaven. Why didn't I want to eat this? It's so good!

3. A few minutes later, I feel so sick. Not really like I'm going to throw up (which I haven't yet), but just an unsettled stomach. I wonder why I ate anything at all.

Basically, I still love the taste of things once they are in my mouth but my stomach doesn't agree.

Usually a veggie sandwich from Quiznos sounds good and sometimes I am still up for my favorite veggie burrito from Chipotle. I also like wheat Ritz crackers with cheese and avocado on them. Ice-cream usually sounds good too (especially Cherry) but I had some today and felt sick after.

Getting enough protein is no small task...
